The Forgotten Blog!

Hello! Yes, it has been a long, long time since I have written a blog post. And I have heard from a few of you wondering what we have been up to. I keep meaning to post a blog, but my procrastination just seems to take over. Sadly, it was the sudden death of our neighbor at the campground that we were staying at over the winter that finally got me typing again. It was a reminder of why we quit our jobs and went full-time in an RV to begin with. Life is short. Take time to live life as best you can.

We have just finished up working again at Westwind RV and Golf Resort in Yuma, Arizona. Dan and I work two10 hour days a week in the golf pro shop. It’s a pretty easy job, and we meet a lot of nice people. We also get to watch a lot of interesting golf shots, as the first tee on the 9 hole par 3 course is right in front of the pro shop. As part of our work camper agreement, we have to be at the park from October 15 to April 15. We arrive when it’s hot, and leave when it’s hot, with all kinds of strange weather in between.

Once a month, we have a Night Golf event at the course. You never know how people are going to dress for it! This is what happens when adults are given too many glow necklaces!

We were able to view a few hot air balloons at a night glow event at a park in the city of Yuma.

We are still enjoying full-time RV living, and this year we have been reminded to always count our blessings for good health. In addition to our neighbor, who was only 66 years young, several friends and family members have been battling through some serious health issues and accidents. And our friends Tom and Ellen left Yuma in January, and relocated to a park in Florida, where they are closer to family. They will be missed!

Dan’s parents, Joan and Stu, flew down again this season, with Dan’s sister Linda, right after Christmas . Linda visited for a few days before flying back to Wisconsin. Dan’s parents were again able to rent a park model at Westwind for 3 months. Stu has been having some health issues, but still managed to golf 5 days a week at the par 3 course. Joan was busy with line dancing and hanging out at the pool. It was also nice to have Dan’s brother Gary and Julia visit, along with their daughter Jasmine and her fiancé Ryan. Dan’s nephew Kyle and his wife Lauren came down in October for a few days of relaxing, dollar store shopping and golf.

Makena and Stu share the same date of birth, 70 years apart. Stu turned 87 and Makena 17 on March 20th, so we were able to celebrate their birthday again this year. Makena is catching up to Stu in age!

After we leave Yuma, we will make our way up to Riverton, Wyoming for the summer. Riverton is 120 miles East of Grand Teton National Park. If you have followed the blog for a while, you know we worked for Luton’s Teton Cabins near GTNP for several summers, The owners of the cabins, Brad and Joanne, sold the cabin business to their nephew, but still maintain a summer house on that property. They spend the winter in Riverton, which has a milder climate, and board horses for several businesses. During the summer, they grow grass hay to feed the horses over the winter months. Our summer job is watering about 200 acres of hay. I’ll have much more details on that soon.

We will miss our Yuma sunsets.

I do plan on blogging on a more frequent basis! When we are sitting still in the same place, there isn’t always much to talk about. But I do have several posts in mind that I will be posting about soon. In the meantime, please be safe!

  1. We enjoy reading about your adventures. Makena looks really good for 17. Our Stanley passed away in December. He sure loved to GO. Hope to see you again someday.

  2. so very good to hear from you again and to catch up with what’s been happening in your lives. We as of in a few weeks will again head back to South Dakota to our same Campground of the past 13 years. Our youngest Granddaughter is 9 years old now and we have watched her every summer since she was born. The campground was sold this winter and the price has doubled. Needless to say we will make this our last summer there. We also lost my Son last fall and will be having his burial service in June up there. We miss him so much and it will be hard going back and not having him there. We haven’t decided about how we will go about visiting our family yet. We love our home here in Texas and all of our friends here but will still make some arrangements for South Dakota travel too. I doubt we will make Riverton but if you come through Sioux Falls please let us know.

    Lots of fond memories,

    • Iris and George its good to hear from you as well. Such fond memories when we met you in Indiana at the Heartland Rally. We are so sorry to hear about your son. Prayers to you both.

We may be coming through SD near the end of July (but not with the RV). We will keep in touch, and maybe get together for a quick lunch if timing allows. Take care!

  7. I was wondering what happened to you two. Glad you’re still kicking and enjoying life. Mike and I just got back to Wisconsin after 4 months in FL. We head to Alaska in June for a small boat cruise. Really excited! Take care.

    • Sounds wonderful! Enjoy your cruise. Alaska is beautiful! And the smaller boats seem to be able to get into more areas unavailable for the big cruise ships.

  8. Hey you two,

So nice to hear from ya’ll !! been worried, that something went wrong, but I understand that like you said, after awhile there’s not much new news, and life just happens . So glad to see Dan’s parents are still making the trip down, and that Makena is too ! you guys still don’t age, by the looks of things, but that must be the weather, and clean living, lol !

I ‘m still trying for VA compensation for service connected compensation for my time in Vietnam, and after 3 attemps with no results, I finally got a law firm , for the cases I had opened. I also belong to a PTSD support group for Vietnam Vets, and it is helping alot, and like the camaraderie with the guys there. It helps to learn that you are not alone , in this area, that most of us hid for most of our lives , after returning, and are finally dealing with the things we never talked about. The hard part of filing for PTSD compensation, is actually going back and writing it down, which brings back alot of things we really didn’t want to deal with. but with the help of the mental health professionals, and the group, we’re moving forward. Hey, a day at a time, right ?

They are still denying me service connection for my legal blindness, which is extremely frustrating, as there is evidence out there, but it is very hard to find a doctor, who will write anexus lwtter for the connection. But all my support group encourages me to keep going ! And while I’m on the subject, I want you to know dan, how much I still appreciate to this day, the great help you gave me in getting my social security, as wellas , my VA health care started !! I never would have been able to doit without your help, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart ! And may God Bless you both for all you have done in the past.

well, that’s about it for now. hope you both stay healthy, and safe, and keep on truckin’ !

    Hugs,

    Jer

    • Thanks Jerry! We are glad you are in a great support group. That makes all the difference. We should be able to come to WI in late July. Sounds like breakfast is in order! Take care to you and your family.

  9. It was so great to hear from you and hear what you’ve been up to, Sis and BIL! I miss you guys!! I miss the RV life, but not caring for an RV. Brutus and I are still in our apartment in Des Moines. He’ll be 13, in June. I hope you get back this way again, sometime. I would love to see you!!!

      • LOL! The comments are now coming in as “someone” but I have figured out most of the people. It’s been so long since I’ve blogged, that word press has changed a lot. Comments are now anonymous unless a person puts their name in.

    • Thanks sis! I don’t think we will be getting through Iowa this summer. Did you sell your class B? Any plans on getting out an exploring again this winter?

  10. glad to see you are still RVing, and that Makena (and you two!) are doing well. George and I are having fun traveling (by air!) to Mexico 3 times a year. We love the resorts, and pool time 🙂
