Happy Birthday to me and Grandpa Stu!!

Keeping my peeps informed!

Keeping my peeps informed!

Today is my 7th Birthday, so my mom is letting me post again!!  I share my birthday with Grandpa Stu (Dan’s dad).  He turns 77 today!  And since we are both in Florida, we were able to share some cake together!!!

My parents have always let me have a small lick of a piece of cake for every birthday that I have had.  So when I saw the little piece on the table, I was very excited!!!

Yummy!!

Yummy!!

And my grandparents bought me a stuffed hamburger toy, which I was able to “destuff” in under 2 minutes!!

My grandparents also took me for a nice long walk, which I always enjoy!  But before we drove up to visit them, I did get to go for a walk at our campground.  My mom was a little afraid on our walk, because she saw an alligator by our campsite. She just stopped, and then my dad started laughing.

I'm not afraid

Turns out the new owners of the RV park have been busy putting out all kinds of decorations around the park, including a fake alligator.  I wasn’t afraid at all, and told the gator to stay away from my football!

And even though today starts “March Madness” with non-stop basketball (Go Bucky!), football is still #1 in my heart.  So no birthday would be complete without another game of football!

I love to play!

Now for those who are wondering about my “people age”, it is a myth that one dog year equals seven people years.  A dog’s age varies by their size and breed.  Since I am only 12 pounds, my “people age” is 44 years.

I hope everyone has a happy first day of Spring!!!  Yea!!!  And tomorrow is my Aunt Linda’s birthday, so I want to wish her a great day too!  (I won’t disclose her age though!)

Blog post # 50 – stolen by the dog!

Hi Everyone, I heard my parents posted blog #49 the other day, so I decided I needed to take over the big 5-0 post, since my dad has already past his big 50, and my mom won’t reach that until April!

Hello!

Hello!

I am really starting to settle into this RV lifestyle, which makes my parents happy.  I no longer get nervous when they start to pack up their belongings, because I know I won’t be left behind.  And it is always fun to check out my new backyards, and new neighbors, knowing that I will always have my house wherever we go.  Same old creature comforts, just with a different view and smells!  It’s a good life!!

This new backyard, or campground as my parents call it, has a great fenced in area for dogs.  It is even better than the last park, as it has grass, not wood chips.  I have a need for speed, and I can go pretty fast when I play on grass!

Gooooooo!!!!

We have been spending a lot of time visiting my grandparents in New Smyrna Beach, which I really enjoy.  Even though I am not allowed to walk on the beach, they always take me for a long walk.  Or am I taking them for a long walk?  I seem to wear them out!

My dad took the above photo, boy won’t they be surprised when they see this!!!  This is why you don’t fall asleep when my dad has the camera!

In my mom’s last post, she talked about the gators that they have seen at the park.  I still haven’t seen any, because they would not take me down by the lake when they saw them.  I was stuck in the camper, so I had to watch from the bedroom window.  If you look close, you can see my sad face in the window:(

But given that I’m afraid of most other animals, it’s better that I stay safe and sound.

Take care, stay warm, and see you soon!

Makena’s Musings

Hi everyone, it’s me again!  For our new followers, “me” is Makena, a Jack Russell terrier.  I like to interrupt this blog every once in a while to give my point of view.

Hello!

Hello!

When we began this new lifestyle, my parents promised me I would not have to suffer through another cold and snowy winter in Wisconsin.  I was not too impressed with the weather in January in Cedar Key, Florida, although it is better than Wisconsin from what my parents tell me.  However,  I did discover what this lifestyle is all about:  adventure and making new friends.  I am not too fond of other dogs, unless I get to see them a lot, and, they keep their nose out of my butt!  But I did get to meet a new type of friend, a cat!!  At first, Kiki was not too happy to see me, but once she realized I had no interest in chasing her, she seemed to warm up to me.

I love Kiki!

Although I did get to go on many long walks in Cedar Key, I wanted to try out kayaking.  Try as I might,  the weather just didn’t get quite warm enough for my parents.  I was ready to go, and hopped in to Kiki’s parents inflatable Sea Eagle kayak. They are animal friendly.   My mom said I needed to put on my life jacket first (yes, I do have one!).

I'm ready to paddle

But now we are in Orange City, FL for the month.  So far, I am really liking it here, for several reasons:

Weather!!!  finally some hot days to bask in the sun!

Orange City RV Resort has a fenced in play area for dogs, so I can finally play some football again!!!!!

always ready to play

I love my football!!!

And best of all, my grandparents are just a short ride away, so I can get lot’s of hugs and tummy rubs from them. We went to the New Smyrna Beach Dunes park the other day, and I was able to play in the Atlantic Ocean (it is a dog-friendly park, but you still have to wear a leash).

Splish Splash!

My grandma took a photo of me with my parents standing along the ocean.  As you can see by the photo, my grandma knows who is more important!  Who cares that she cut their heads off, at least I am in the photo!!!  Oh, and that’s her finger covering the lens on the left, in case you were wondering!!

Grandma says I am the important one!

So things are going well.  There are a lot of nice folks in this park as well.  I haven’t seen any cats though.  But the man across the street likes to leave peanuts out for the squirrels, so I see dozens of them everyday!!

Thanks for following along, and I hope to bring you more adventures soon!!

We interrupt this blog….

to bring you Makena’s Musings!!!!! Hi there, I am Makena, a very cute 6 1/2 year old Jack Russell Terrier.

Hi there!!

Hi there!!

While my parents are away working at Amazon, earning money to keep me supplied with treats and toys, I thought I would take over the laptop for a day and talk about a dog’s life in an RV.

I was very happy in our “old life”, at our house. We had great neighbors, and the kids would always come and play with me. Sometimes they would chase me around our house, trying to catch me. I’m pretty fast and they could never catch me. But I see they are now winning awards at school, so they would probably catch up to me…..maybe!!! (congrats to Joshua!!)

After my parents sold the house, we moved into an apartment, which I hated. There was no place to play off-leash, and we had no furniture, as they sold all the stuff….

depressed in the apartment

But then we moved, again, and settled into our RV, which I immediately loved. My parents were a bit worried, but I had windows, windows, and more windows!!! Dogs, and cats, need windows to keep up with the world.

Bedroom windows...bonus!

Bedroom windows…bonus!

The only problem I have been having is with storms…I hate them.  And in an RV, you can hear them really loud!!  In our old house, I could go down into the basement, or at least under the bed.  I don’t have either option in an RV, so I improvised!!

storm shelter #1

The first night it rained, I went into the shower.  I thought it was a great idea, and safe, but my parents told me it was the noisiest place in the RV, because of the skylight in the shower, so I have been banned from the bathroom.  So then I went to plan B:

storm shelter #2

storm shelter #2

Yep, I thought crawling under the recliner would be a good spot, but that went over like a lead balloon.  I got dragged out from under my safe spot:(

I am still in search of a good shelter…there is no place under the bed, and the closets are small.  So far, this is my only complaint about living in an RV.  Other than no storm shelter, I love it here!!!  I get several walks a day, there are plenty of people around that will pet me and tell me how cute I am.  And my parents are really trying to find places I can play without wearing that stinking leash:)

I love to play!!!

I love to play!!!

I plan on blogging occasionally, when my parents are too busy.  This week they are still on 7 1/2 hour shifts, but starting Sunday, they go to 10 hour shifts.  I will have to cross my paws!

Oh, and another place I have been banned from…..but look at the nice window I had!!

banned again!

Take care….Makena!

And God said…..

….shop at Amazon!!  Today I was going around picking the merchandise, and my scanner said “Communion Wafers”.  I paused for awhile, as I thought these came from some special store, but apparently not!!  I guess they really do sell everything.

Makena wants to know which one of her dog blog followers ordered the book “The Wonderful World of Squirrels”?!!  I picked one of those books today.  Makena would like to borrow it, so she can look at the photos!

Dan said he was ready to call Human Resources today, to see if I told them to make him exercise more.  He was pretty pooped out tonight, as he had to pick in all 3 buildings.

When we got home, Makena was ready to play football.  During the week, the tent site area is empty, so we have been taking her over there and letting her run around off leash…..shhhh, don’t tell the park ranger!

Monday thru Friday morning, the tent site area is vacant.

It is really a beautiful area, right on the lake.  During the week, this area becomes Makena’s playland;

Playtime!!

Playtime!!

RV’ers have a lot of pets.  Lucy has been trying everyday to get Makena to play with her.  She is very friendly, but Makena loves people, not other dogs.  Makena needs her cousin Reagan to come and visit to play with Lucy.  And Rudy can come down and chase all the ducks and geese that hang around the shoreline!

I just want to play with you!
